Product Description

Casting Steel Bulwark Mounted Panama Chock for Ship Mooring | JIS F 2017 Type BC

Product Overview

The JIS F 2017 Type BC Panama chock is a cast steel bulwark-mounted mooring chock used to guide mooring ropes through ship-side mooring stations. It is intended for installation on the bulwark, where the chock body provides a rounded rope-contact opening and transfers mooring load into the reinforced ship structure through the welded connection shown in the project drawing.

Type BC should be selected when the project specifies a cast steel bulwark Panama chock rather than the Type BP steel-plate fabricated version. For quotation and production confirmation, the key points are nominal size, rope route, design load or reference SWL requirement, material, coating system, bulwark reinforcement, welding details and required certificate scope.

Quick Specifications

• Standard: JIS F 2017-1982 → standard reference for ship Panama chocks and dimensional checking.

• Type: BC → cast steel bulwark-mounted type, different from Type BP steel-plate fabricated construction.

• Nominal size range: 310 / 360 / 400 / 450 / 500 → selected according to mooring arrangement, rope lead and vessel drawing.

• Reference load information: 30–100T shown in the supplied product data → final SWL or design mooring load shall be confirmed by project drawing, mooring calculation and class requirement.

• Main dimensions: L 310–500 mm, L2 731–940 mm, H2 684–700 mm → key dimensions for web drawing and installation space review.

• Approximate weight: 276–422 kg → useful for handling, packing, freight estimate and shipyard lifting arrangement during installation.

• Material options: cast C-Mn steel or cast stainless steel → final grade and traceability to be confirmed by project specification.

• Surface treatment: sandblasting to Sa2.5 + epoxy shop primer as common preparation → final coating system and color according to project requirement.

Selection & Inquiry Guide

• Step 1: Confirm standard and type → JIS F 2017 Type BC, cast steel, bulwark mounted. Do not mix with Type BP fabricated steel-plate chock or deck-mounted types.

• Step 2: Confirm nominal size and rope path → select 310, 360, 400, 450 or 500 according to vessel mooring arrangement, line lead angle and available bulwark space.

• Step 3: Confirm load basis → provide SWL, design mooring load, rope MBL or class-approved mooring calculation if available; do not treat rope breaking load as product SWL without confirmation.

• Step 4: Confirm material and coating → cast steel grade, stainless option if required, corrosion protection system, primer/top coat color and inspection requirement.

• Step 5: Confirm installation information → bulwark structure, reinforcement, weld area, installation drawing and any shipyard approval requirement.

• Step 6: Confirm order details → quantity, vessel type, classification society requirement, delivery destination, required delivery time, packing requirement and drawing or photo if available.

Structure

Cast steel chock body | Rounded rope-contact opening | Bulwark welded connection area | Reinforced ship structure interface | Surface treatment and inspection areas

Casting, Welding & Engineering Advantages

• The integrated cast steel body helps form a continuous rounded rope-contact surface for guiding mooring ropes through the bulwark opening.

• Compared with Type BP fabricated construction, Type BC focuses more on casting integrity, rope-contact smoothness and casting surface inspection.

• The rounded contact geometry helps reduce local rope abrasion when the mooring line changes direction through the chock.

• The weld area near the bulwark connection should be checked carefully; the 50 mm range close to the hull or bulwark welding area should be free from defects affecting welding quality.

• Wooden pattern casting or lost foam casting may be selected according to size, quantity and foundry arrangement, subject to final engineering confirmation.

• Finite element review or project-specific strength checking can be arranged when required by the shipyard, designer or classification society.

• Coating preparation can be adjusted according to marine environment, owner specification and inspection scope.

Custom Attributes

• Product Standard: JIS F 2017-1982 → dimensional and structural reference for Panama chocks used on ships.

• Type: BC → cast steel bulwark-mounted chock for ship mooring rope guidance.

• Difference from Type BP: cast steel body instead of steel-plate fabricated body → selection should follow the specified project type.

• Installation Position: Bulwark → intended for ship-side mooring rope passage and welded connection to reinforced structure.

• Material Option: cast C-Mn steel / cast stainless steel → selected according to strength, corrosion resistance and project specification.

• Coating Option: Sa2.5 + epoxy shop primer or project coating system → final paint system to be confirmed before production.

• Certificate Option: Makers Test Certificate or classification certificate → available according to project requirement and subject to class approval scope.

How It Works

Mooring rope enters the bulwark Panama chock → rounded cast steel contact surface guides the rope → rope wear is reduced by smooth contact geometry → mooring load passes through the cast chock body → welded connection transfers the load into the reinforced bulwark structure.

FAQ

Q1: What is the main difference between JIS F 2017 Type BC and Type BP Panama chock?

Type BC is a cast steel bulwark-mounted Panama chock. Type BP is a steel-plate fabricated bulwark-mounted Panama chock. They have different construction methods and should not be mixed when the ship drawing specifies a certain JIS F 2017 type.

Q2: Can the Type BC chock be supplied with a classification certificate?

Yes. A classification certificate or Makers Test Certificate can be arranged according to project requirement. The exact scope should be confirmed before quotation because it affects material traceability, inspection, testing, lead time and cost.

Q3: What should be confirmed before ordering?

Please confirm JIS F 2017 Type BC, nominal size, SWL or design mooring load, material grade, surface treatment, quantity, bulwark installation drawing, classification society requirement, delivery destination and required delivery time.
