Product Description
150–500 mm Cast Steel Mooring Roller with Upper Dust Cover | ISO 13755:2020 Type B
Product Overview
The ISO 13755:2020 Type B steel roller is a single cast-steel mooring roller fitted with an upper dust cover. It is used as the rope-contact roller within shipside roller fairlead and pedestal fairlead arrangements, where the rotating roller guides a mooring line through a change of direction while reducing sliding contact at the rope-contact surface.
Type B differs from Type A by the addition of the upper dust cover over the axle and bush area. The cover helps limit direct contamination and weather exposure at the upper rotating interface, but it is not a sealed housing and does not remove the need for lubrication and inspection. Selection should be confirmed together with nominal roller size, rope diameter and D/d ratio, rope lead angle, reference SWL, foundation or pedestal arrangement, under-deck reinforcement, coating and project approval requirements.
Quick Specifications
• Type: ISO 13755:2020 Type B, steel casting with upper dust cover → distinguishes this configuration from Type A without cover and Type C fabricated from steel plate.
• Nominal size: Dn 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 / 350 / 400 / 450 / 500 mm → Dn refers to the roller outside diameter used for standard selection.
• Reference SWL: 265–1,942 kN at θ = 90° and 186–1,373 kN at θ = 0° → actual onboard SWL depends on the approved foundation and under-deck reinforcement and shall not exceed the standard value.
• Calculated mass: 24–374 kg/set → Type B includes the upper dust cover and associated fasteners.
• Roller material basis: steel casting with yield point not less than 205 N/mm² → exact grade and material certification to be confirmed by project specification.
• Axle / bush basis: weldable steel axle material with yield point not less than 350 N/mm² or equivalent; brass, bronze or equivalent bush.
• Rope-contact requirement: contact surfaces shall be smooth and free from irregularities likely to damage the mooring line by abrasion.
• Maintenance basis: external anti-corrosion protection and greasing of rotating parts → dust cover condition, lubrication and free rotation remain routine inspection items.

Selection & Inquiry Guide
• Step 1: Confirm ISO 13755:2020 Type B and select nominal size Dn 150–500 according to the vessel mooring arrangement and roller outside diameter.
• Step 2: Confirm mooring-line diameter, construction and rope manufacturer's allowable D/d bend ratio, together with the required rope lead direction and operating angle.
• Step 3: Confirm the applicable θ load case, required onboard SWL, shipside or pedestal fairlead arrangement, foundation geometry and under-deck reinforcement.
• Step 4: Confirm cast-steel material grade, axle and bush material, upper dust-cover arrangement, lubrication method and material-document requirement.
• Step 5: Confirm coating system, inspection scope, dimensional inspection, marking requirement and classification-society involvement according to the project specification.
• Step 6: Provide quantity, vessel type, installation position, drawing or reference photo, delivery destination and required delivery time.
Structure
Cast steel roller | Axle | Brass / bronze bush | Upper dust cover | Cover fasteners | Grease path / lubrication point | Foundation or pedestal interface | Welded connection to ship structure
Dust Cover, Rope Contact & Installation Advantages
• The upper dust cover distinguishes Type B from Type A and reduces direct exposure of the upper axle / bush area to deck contamination and weather.
• The dust cover is protective rather than pressure-tight; routine greasing, free-rotation checks and inspection of the covered area remain necessary.
• The rotating cast-steel roller changes the line direction with less sliding contact than a fixed guide surface when the roller is correctly aligned and maintained.
• ISO 13755 requires smooth rope-contact surfaces without harmful roughness or irregularities, making surface condition a key manufacturing and inspection point.
• The current ISO edition also requires D/d considerations when matching the roller contact diameter to the mooring-line diameter because excessive bending can reduce rope strength.
• Foundation design and welding shall transfer the maximum roller loading into the hull structure without plastic deformation or cracking; deck reinforcement is therefore part of the system selection.
• Standard reference SWL is the same load basis used for the ISO steel-roller family; the upper dust cover changes protection and maintenance access, not the published load case.
Custom Attributes
• Standard: ISO 13755:2020 → current ISO steel-roller standard for ship mooring and towing fittings.
• Type: Type B with upper dust cover → cast-steel construction with protected upper axle / bush area.
• Nominal Size: Dn 150–500 mm → select together with rope size, D/d ratio, line path and installation space.
• Reference SWL: Two standard load cases by θ angle → actual onboard value is determined with the approved foundation and under-deck reinforcement.
• Roller Material Basis: Steel casting, yield point ≥205 N/mm² → exact grade subject to approved project specification.
• Axle / Bush: Weldable steel axle material ≥350 N/mm² or equivalent | Brass / bronze / equivalent bush.
• Surface Protection: External anti-corrosion finish → final paint system follows vessel / shipyard specification.
• Maintenance: Greased rotating parts + dust-cover inspection → cover does not replace lubrication or periodic free-rotation checks.
• Certificate Requirement: Available according to order scope → maker, material and class documentation to be confirmed before order.
How It Works
Mooring line approaches the roller → Line bears on the smooth cast-steel contact surface → Roller rotates around the axle and bush → Line direction changes with reduced sliding contact → Load transfers through the foundation / pedestal into the hull structure → Upper dust cover limits direct contamination while lubrication maintains free rotation
Applications
Shipside roller fairlead arrangements | Pedestal fairleads | Ship deck mooring stations | Mooring-line direction changes | Towing and mooring fitting systems | Newbuilding projects | Replacement and repair projects

FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between ISO 13755 Type A and Type B?
A1: Both use a steel-casting roller construction, but Type B includes an upper dust cover over the axle / bush area. Type A is the corresponding cast-steel arrangement without the upper dust cover.
Q2: Does the upper dust cover make the roller sealed or maintenance-free?
A2: No. The dust cover is a protective cover, not a sealed bearing enclosure. Rotating parts still require greasing, and the cover, axle, bush and free roller movement should be inspected during maintenance.
Q3: How should the actual shipboard SWL be selected?
A3: Use the ISO reference SWL for the applicable rope-deflection case as an upper standard limit, then confirm the actual onboard SWL from the approved foundation, pedestal if applicable, under-deck reinforcement, line arrangement and vessel mooring plan.
